Heavy Rains and Landslides Disrupt Telecom in Himachal; DoT Steps Up Restoration Efforts

Shimla, September 9 – Continuous heavy rains and landslides over the past week have caused severe disruption across Himachal Pradesh, with Chamba, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti districts among the worst affected. Road blockages, damage to infrastructure, and power outages have compounded the crisis, severely impacting connectivity in several remote areas.

In response, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Himachal Pradesh LSA, has been working on a war footing with the support of District Administrations, State authorities, and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to restore critical telecom services.

Officials confirmed that the Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) facility was promptly activated, ensuring that subscribers, irrespective of their operator, could latch on to any available network. With this measure, most telecom services across the affected regions have been restored, providing much-needed relief to residents, tourists, and emergency responders.

Meanwhile, ground teams are continuing efforts to restore damaged optical fiber cable routes, repair mobile towers, and provide redundancy in vulnerable stretches. Authorities assured that full restoration will be achieved soon with continuous monitoring and support.
