Addl. DGT Visits 5G Lab at NIT Hamirpur, Reviews Utilisation and Citizen-Centric Initiatives
Hamirpur, January 20, 2026:
Shri Anil Kumar Gupta, Additional Director General Telecom (Addl. DGT) and Advisor, Himachal Pradesh LSA, visited the 5G Laboratory at National Institute of Technology Hamirpur on 20 January 2026. The visit was aimed at reviewing the current utilisation of the 5G Lab and discussing its role in promoting innovation, research, and capacity building in advanced telecom technologies.
During the visit, Shri Anil Kumar Gupta interacted with faculty members and reviewed ongoing activities and potential use cases being developed under the 5G Lab framework. He emphasised the importance of effectively leveraging 5G infrastructure for academic research, startups, and real-world applications, particularly those addressing local and regional needs.
The Addl. DGT also held an informal meeting with Hiralal Murlidhar Suryawanshi, Director, NIT Hamirpur. During the interaction, Shri Gupta apprised the Director about various citizen-centric initiatives of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), including the DBN Project. He highlighted the utility of these initiatives, especially in improving digital connectivity and telecom services in rural and remote areas of Himachal Pradesh.
The Director, NIT Hamirpur, appreciated the continued support and guidance from DoT and reiterated the institute’s commitment to actively utilising the 5G Lab for research, student innovation, and collaboration with government and industry stakeholders.
The visit reaffirmed the shared vision of DoT and NIT Hamirpur to foster technological advancement, support Digital India goals, and ensure that emerging telecom technologies benefit citizens, particularly in rural and underserved regions.
