DoT Conducts EMF Testing in Remote Himalayan Region to Ensure Safe Connectivity
Lahaul & Spiti, Himachal Pradesh June 27, 2025 — In a significant outreach and compliance initiative, the Himachal Pradesh License Service Area (HP LSA) of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) conducted Electromagnetic Field (EMF) testing of 33 Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) across the remote district of Lahaul & Spiti from June 25 to 27, 2025.
The drive was conducted under the leadership of the Additional Director General of Telecom (Addl. DGT), HP LSA, with the objective of ensuring that all operational telecom sites comply with prescribed EMF safety norms, thereby safeguarding public health while maintaining robust mobile connectivity in the region.
As part of the initiative, the compliance team visited the 4G site at Hikkim village, one of the highest inhabited locations in the world. During the visit, a discussion was held with Sh. Nawang Funchak, Lambardar of the village, to raise awareness about the Department’s initiatives and to address local concerns regarding telecom infrastructure and digital inclusion.
This proactive engagement reflects DoT’s commitment to transparency, public outreach, and the safe expansion of digital services in even the most remote corners of the country.
